Wondering what the difference is between a good and great college essay?

COLLEGE ESSAYS ARE CRITICAL AND MAY EVEN BE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS.

Of course, school grades and test scores are important. However, many students and parents don’t realize what a unique opportunity college application essays offer for students to shine and highlight important aspects of themselves not revealed by a GPA, ACT, SAT II, I.B. or A.P. exam score.

No doubt about it: the most dreaded words in the entire application process are COLLEGE ESSAYS. Other words often accompanying these two are Fear, Loathing, Procrastination, and Writer’s Block.

Note the plural: Essays. In addition to the Common Application's Personal Statement, separate essays are required for many colleges Supplemental Applications. Add to the mix essays for scholarships, specific majors, and special programs, and the challenge intensifies.

Writing non-academic reflective essays is foreign territory for most high school students. However, the essays need not be intimidating or overwhelming.
